Delays, Life Changes.

Personal Update

This is a bit of a personal update, but it affects the amount I've been able to work on the game, so I decided to mention it anyway.
On Sept 30th, I went home to help my mother recuperate from her knee replacement surgery, and as a result, I haven't gotten nearly any work done in a week. ><

But, more significantly, in the week I was gone, I was also let go from my previously furloughed position as as a bookseller.

(To be clear- this had nothing to do with my absence. The store was waiting until they had the money to be able to bring me back to work, and it became apparent to management that the money they were hoping for never came. As a result, I, and several others, were terminated.)

While this is a less than ideal position to be in, more than ever, the completion of this game is important for my future; not just as someone who made games to get back on the horse, but as a part of a portfolio for potential employment.
I don't have any delusions I can make a living from what I am doing right now. But at the very least, I want to be able to do work I love again, and (especially due to the state of the world) hopefully i can break out of working retail, eventually.

Progress on TSYI

The sprite art for TSYI has been delayed a bit more, due to the artist's own life circumstances; that's just how things go, sometimes.

In the upcoming week, expect updates on more GUI, script refinement, etc from myself. Feel free to follow me on twitter, @bluerosesonata, and you'll see more there.

I'm unsure now if the game even NEEDS a longer version; as things stand, writing the descriptions of dismemberment and gore feels like it loses its power with every subsequent scene...but there's absolutely more endings I would want to add to the game...
We'll need to wait and see.

But it seems absolutely INSANE  to me now that I was originally planning on 5 days of killing. INSANE! It doesn't need that much! I have a LOT of thoughts on Scope of this game, and that will have to wait until the post mortem of the game, but oh BOY, i am just. Too Eager.

Future Projects

Speaking of being too eager, I am preparing to potentially participate in the 2020 Yuri Game jam.

This is, characteristically,  EXTREMELY short notice; but the story in mind is one I've been wanting to tell for a while.

I'm planning to make it using Naninovel- which is a HUGE leap of its own (I haven't even LOOKED at C++ in literal years)- because it seems most suited to the gameplay I am hoping to achieve.
I haven't formally joined the jam for the reason of wanting to be sure this project is as finished and polished as I want it to be, but fully intend on gathering a team to work on this next one, as it is absolutely outside of my solo capabilities to make in such a short period of time. At the moment the team consists of myself and a second writer/UI designer.

It's a story about a butch lesbian in suburbia who meets a human sitcom-obsessed alien that becomes her wife. The gameplay involved will integrate several simple mini games as pivot points for scene outcomes, but it's already been decided it will have a linear storyline and progression style.

More details will be provided much later on, once I know if i will actually make the jam, but regardless, if you're interested, feel free to reach out to me. I'll be looking for a programmer comfortable with Unity/C++, and a character artist/designer.

Anyway, that's the future- for now, I continue with this project, and see it to the end.
Thanks again for all your interest and support!
